Hello everyone!
Last Thursday was the second running of the Douglas Park “Cruzer Training Session” in Long Beach. We had a turnout of around 20 cyclists versus the 50 the week prior, partly due to weather, but everyone that’s been out so far seems to really enjoy the well-lit circuit and the smooth road surface.
I’ve received several requests to move the ride from Thursday nights to Wednesday nights so we can avoid scheduling conflicts with other training rides in and around the LA area. So, the new day for the Douglas Park “Cruzer Training Sessions” is officially Wednesday of every week (weather permitting). This also gives one of Long Beach’s finest, Police Officer Chi, the opportunity to come out and ride with us since Wednesday is his day off. =)
We’re including a beginner or recreational rider session from 6:30-7:30 pm. Please let your family and friends know, especially if they’re interested in taking up biking and looking for a fun place to work out with others. As always, kids are more than welcome to come out and get fit with us and remember “a family that works out together stays together.”
The training for the advanced rider/racer will get under way at 7:30 pm and run all the way to 8:30 pm.
Hope to see you there,
Tony

NEW schedule starting 11/19/2009: Every Wednesday night (weather permitting)
Open training session from 6:30 to 7:30 pm
- For all riders that are just getting started in cycling, (men, women, and kids alike) or those who are looking for a moderate work out.
- Training speed will stay between 10-20 miles an hour (we can split up into 2 groups if necessary).
Advanced training session from 7:30 to 8:30 pm
- I’d like to ask the experience riders to wait until 7 pm before they get out on the circuit and give the less experienced a chance to ride and not feel intimidated.
- The group will ride at a medium intensity, (24 mph or slower) for the first half hour and ramp up to a higher intensity the last half hour. If you feel the need to open up the ‘throttle” from the start or within the first half hour please try and do so individually. I suggest that you try to lap the field if you’re really motivated!
Volunteers needed! We need 3 traffic volunteers to help us keep the ride safe (email me at antoniocruz_associates@yahoo.com if you can volunteer).
