I was riding with a friend back up the coast last month and I made my first stop at the new "bike box" on Marina Dr. and 2nd St. My friend was visiting from Sacramento and he was amazed with the new bike-friendly improvements Long Beach has made in such a short period of time. As we were admiring the new "green space" on the road geared towards making our great city a more bike-friendly one, another rider road into the picture. She was on a cool Schwinn Varsity ladies bike with side baskets carrying her groceries on were way back home. She rolled up to the bike box with a big smile, like a poster child for bicycle advocacy and healthy green living, and I had to ask if I could take her photo and share it on our website. She's exactly the reason myself and a host of others are working hard to make Long Beach the most bike-friendly urban city in the nation, and I can't wait to see more people out enjoying themselves out on their bikes! Beautiful - but it still pains me that she has no helmet! I have to see the aftermath of cyclist vs auto...so please protect your head!
